Welcome Scot McCollum!

Smith's is proud to announce the addition of Scot McCollum to our staff!  Scot comes to us from Champagne, Illinois.

He has over 20 years experience in the bicycle industry.  Scot has enjoyed many types of bicycle riding including road, mountain, tandem, commuting, touring and cyclocross.  But the fun doesn't stop there!  He has also answered the call of the racer's bell for road, track and mountain bike racing.  His interest in bicycles had allowed him the opportunity to do rides and races all around the Midwest, as well as around the country and internationally in places such as California, Maine and Japan.  In addition to riding and racing, Scot has extensive experience in bicycle production in the areas of design, engineering, quality and manufacturing.  While in college, he designed bicycle components as part of his degree in Industrial Design.  His first job out of college was at American Classic where he designed and manufactured bicycle components.  He subsequently worked on bicycle component and frame design for Trek.  His latest venture has been designing his own brand of English Touring/Club bicycles called Thistle.

Scot is a wonderful addition to the Smith's family.

Please stop by and say "Hi" to Scot!

Don (Donny 'Hose') Ames  10/27/07

donnie_ames.jpgLa Crosse has lost an awesome bike technician, husband, father, and friend. Donny passed away last Saturday after having a heart attack while pheasant hunting in Iowa.
Say a prayer for his family. This was a very sudden and unexpected death. Nancy said to me she was at least happy he died doing what he enjoyed most.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16
Donny was a believer.
The angels are now riding the mostly finely tuned bikes in Heaven.

Thanks Donny for being such an awesome employee. We will miss you.
