It’s the oldest saying in the book, but as quoted by a customer of Smith’s, “…when a business has such a quality, diverse, enthusiastic, and experienced staff as Smith’s…” that saying can only be true. 

We pride ourselves on our long standing reputation of quality bikes, products and service in the LaCrosse community for 95 years!

Smith's was founded by Joseph E. and Ida B. Smith in 1913.  It began as an oil and bicycle store located at 520 S. 8th St. in downtown LaCrosse.  Joe Smith passed away in 1937 and Ida ran the bike store until 1942.

In 1942, long standing employee, Eddie Hayek, purchased Smith's Bike Shop from the Smith family.  Eddie's son, Dennis, worked at the bike shop and took over the operation in the 1970's.

In 1994, Carl and Lisa Johnson purchased Smith's from the Hayek's.  The name was changed to Smith's Cycling and Fitness when quality home fitness equipment  was added to the line of products sold.

After much growth and many years of business at 520 S. 8th St., Smiths had outgrown its location.  In 2002, Smith's was moved to its present location at 125 N. 7th St. in downtown LaCrosse. The new building, along with the warehouse next door, allowed for even greater expansion of Smith's many areas of expertise.  It also gave Smith's tremendous ceiling height to display the many antique bikes Smith's has collected over the years.

Smith's has been a respected business in the community for many generations, allowing great-grandparents the opportunity to purchase a bike for their great-grandchild at the same bicycle shop they got their first bike :)
